This is pretty much what I do and it has helped. It is a lot of work though, but you can feel the sense of accomplishment as your traffic slowly increases everyday. I got an artificial traffic jump from StumbleUpon but it didn't stick. Now with my day to day grind of commenting on my niche blogs, I can see people comming back.
