I've read an ebook written by Mark Flavin, where he was mentioning the same thing as you, about press-releases: they are an effective way of driving traffic to a site/blog and spreading the word about the products or services you have to offer. Haven't tried this yet, but I'm definitely planning to do it, for both my blog and my niche site ( which by the way, it's still under construction
