This has been discussed before but the main reason is you don't own your content on blogger.com it can get deleted or your account banned anything an you've lost your work. Wordpress on self hosted is easy, cheap and you own your content. Also WP has thousands of free themes tones of widgets it's just the way to do it if you're serious 100%. I'm hosted with
HostGator right now and I've never had to contact tech support as long as I've had an account. You can register a domain at
GoDaddy; I've been using them forever as well.
Also your domain can be whatever you want and if you're smart you'll make it have some search terms in it while still being somewhat pleasant to look at. There is also other discussions on that or start a new thread on the topic.
I started at blogger long long ago like so many others and you do get comfortable but you never miss things when you move up and it's even more comfortable. There are other threads as well if you search on how to make the transfer; many members here have done it.
