Using Blogs with Ezines or Newsletters You do not necessarily have to have a website to publish an eZine (Electronic Magazine, essentially), because all you need to do to put out an online newsletter is to send it through e-mail to all of your subscribers. However, many publishers use websites to keep track of all the past issues of their eZines or newsletters. Websites like these are also great for embedding AdSense ads, or other things which may help to generate some revenue for the publisher so that they may go on publishing their newsletter every week or month or so on. The HTML format of a website allows eZine publishers to develop a potential for revenue which they would not be able to achieve if only using e-mail format for their publications. This website has other uses as well, including allowing you to have a location where new potential subscribers can fill out their information. There are many great uses for a website when you are publishing an eZine, even though it is not a necessary part of the process. There is a new developing concept which involves utilizing a blog rather than a regular website in order to keep track of past newsletter issues, allowing readers to look at past issues in an HTML format. A blog is an online journal or newsletter which is published for public reading. There are many large blog communities online, including Blogger.com which began in 1999 and was purchased by Google sometime in 2002. Another great website involving blogging is Alexa.com, which keeps track of traffic statistics for every single website on the internet, including every single web log or blog. For example, blogger.com is consistently ranking high on Alexa's web site because it is both extremely popular, and receives a large amount of new traffic on a consistent basis. When it comes to the success or failure of your site, traffic is a major factor in determining which way it will go. The position in search engine searches that your site receives on Google or Yahoo will play a key part in how strong your website is and whether or not it will succeed. Making sure that your newsletter ends up on Blogger will be a big help, because the blogs on Blogger.com are searched quickly by Google's spiders, and when new information is posted, your website will surely be indexed. This will give your newsletter's blog a much quicker rate of exposure than if you were simply posting newsletters on a regular website. Here are some important advantages which come with using a blog to archive your eZine or newsletter issues.
Setting up a blog account for your eZine is easy, and setting up AdSense for your eZine blog is also extremely simple. You should sign up for AdSense first, which can be done at www.google.com/adsense and then you can sign up for a Blogger.com blog. Both sign ups only require a few easy steps. Once your account is open, you can choose a template and a name for your blog. You can change both of these things whenever you wish, so do not concern yourself with them too much. Once your blog is created, you can begin to store back issues of your newsletter in the blog, and you will notice an increase in readership nearly immediately. Make daily entries in your blog when you are not posting newsletters or back issues of eZines because the more content you post, the more your blog will attract search engine spiders, and new readers by proxy.
