If you are looking for a blog that is all about computers, then you will really enjoy The Eches Net Blog. Here is a blog that is created by someone with a passion for all things computers and is for people who share that same passion. It is here that one can find anything from blogging tips, topics on different browsers, and more movies, music, and games that you could ever imagine plus so much more! The blog has been established for nearly two years and so has the advantage of being a great resource for finding out how things have changed, how they have gotten better, and what new items are always coming onto the market – as well as how to solve all of those pesky little problems that crop up from time to time and are so irritating! See this for yourself with any of the most recent bloggeries which include: PC Tools Internet Security 2009: Free 1 Year Genuine License Key; Windows Live Suite: Download Windows Live Wave 3 Beta; Protect your Computer with Avira Antivir Pesonal Edition; 8 Free Online SEO Tools to Check Complete Site Statistics; and Create, Backup, Restore & Delete Google Chrome Profiles with GCB, it’s clear that this site has a little bit of everything!

The site is extremely well laid out with a beautiful and professional template thus making navigation a breeze. Bloggeries are left marginalized and there is a top navigation system, and a double wide right sided navigation system. Bloggeries are in black text on white background and links and headlines are in blue. Very easy to find right under the header is a menu for all Recent Articles. In the right sided navigation systems you will first find subscription information, and then a handy search field if you are looking for something specific. The left sided bar then contains the Categories Menu, and Recent Comments Menu. The right sided bar includes links for menus called Network, Europe One Stop, and SEO Tech and Peripherals. The top navigation will lead you to standard links for Home, Wordpress Themes, Links, Sitemap, Contact, and About Me. Although the blog is primarily text based with very little graphics, the design and color scheme of the site is also very professional and keeps in tone with the rest of the site as it is mostly done in a ‘Microsoft Blue.’

Overall this blog gets a 3.9/5 for review with just a few suggestions. The content is well written and in a user friendly voice that even newbie computer users can appreciate. The activity is not coming in daily, otherwise perfect scores would come in play here. The other aspects of the site however are very well done with the navigation being very easy, and the appearance of the blog very professional. I would suggest however adding some graphics to improve the appearance just a bit and make the opening page a little less text based. Overall however, this is an excellent site with a high recommend. This is such a great site, and truly what could be considered a one-stop shop for all those that are seriously computer-minded.

Those who are constantly on the hunt for the latest and greatest gadgets will find them at The Gadget Advisor Blog. The gadget advisor technology news blog is filled with only the most innovative and the cutting edge products and gadgets on the markets. You will also find here add-ons, plug-ins, and extensions that can be used in browsers or other software. What sets this blog apart from all the other gadget blogs out there is that it admits that it will not cover every single gadget coming to the market. However, if you like to tinker with the toys, this gadget will certainly tickle that techie bone. You can see this for yourself through any of the most recent bloggeries which include: Recommended Firefox Extensions; OCZ Releases Triple Channel DDR3 Memory Kits; Free Firefox Web Directory Form Filler Extension; MSI X58 Eclipse Motherboard ; OpenOffice.org 3.0 Released.

The blog offers a very professional layout and this makes it a breeze to navigate. The blog theme is in a quiet green with bloggeries in dark text on white background. Bloggeries are left marginalized and there are many navigation systems on this blog, but not too many to work around. The top navigation system offers you links to Home, About, and Advertisement, while a navigation system in the header will take you to Gadgets, Tech News, Computer Hardware, Computer Software, Featured Articles, and Archives. There is a double wide right navigation system as well where you will find all of the blog essentials you need. A Posts Menu divided into Popular, Featured, Comments, and Tags is the first thing you will find here. Following this you find advertisement, Categories Menu, Site Pages, and Resources Menu which serves as a blogroll. The blog is only a couple of months young, so you will not find too many categories yet, but expect this to grow. Right now five categories exist, and the blogger may want to consider expanding that due to the breadth of the niche. At present, the blog is primarily an information blog and so it looks quite text based. You won’t find any graphics on the opening page, but as you go into the bloggeries pictoral graphics are present in most if not all bloggeries.

This blog gets a 4.5 at the time of review, which is a great mark on such a young blog. Though the blog presents itself well, it still does need some tweaks to amp it up a bit. The categories menu could be beefed up a little as mentioned in order to ease navigation a little, but otherwise the navigation is very easy. The content is well written in a user friendly voice which is important for a blog of this nature. Appearance wise the blog is clean and friendly, though I do suggest offering more graphics on the opening page within the bloggeries to spice it up a bit. Activity seems consistent and regular which is a great sign, but again, the bloggeries themselves do not have time and date stamps, and readers like to see current times on recent bloggeries. Overall however, this is a great blog that is well organized, and will be well appreciated by todays gadget lover.

Bloggeries is going to take a look at a blog now that will take you into the future, sort of. The blog is called Smart Homes. The blogger is Sam, a 21 year old living in England. He studies at the ICT at Nottingham Trent University and blogs to keep himself occupied when he is not studying. The blog itself is a blog about how to make your home more independent, how to make it smarter. Here you will find information that was once spoken about in future tense, but is regarding technology that is in the works right now that will make your home a more efficient place to live. Think of things like, being able to turn your thermostat on via text messaging before you leave for work which you can read about in the bloggery “Text Your Home”. These are the concepts you will read about at Smart Homes. Find out what some of Sam’s recent thoughts are by reading some of his most recent bloggeries: Smart Home forums, Dimmable Flourescent Lighting and Home Automation, x10 problems, Insteon Heading to Europe, Popular Trends in Home Technology, Builders and Home Automation, and A Media Center PC Gives You the Ultimate in Home Automation.

The blog is very simple and almost only contains the niche content which makes the blog very easy to navigate. Bloggeries are left marginalized and there is a right navigation bar. Bloggeries are standard black text on white background with links highlighted in red. In the right navigation system you will find a Categories Menu, Advertising, Technology widget, Blog Directory Links, and Subscription Links. The blog is fairly new so the categories menu is not quite built up yet, but here you will find categories on books, features, Insteon, Smart Home Basics, and x10. Missing from the regular blog meat are an Archives Menu, and a Recent Posts Menu would benefit the blogger as this blog grows. I think adding more detail to the About Page would be good for this blog as frankly, it took me some time and reading to really figure out what the blog was about. This is a niche that is very popular and the blogger could make use of a large demographic if he provided more information to the readership.

The blog is new, and lacks some essential blog materials and so I give this blog a 3/5, but I see a tremendous potential for this blog. The idea is unique enough that once the blog gets rolling it will gain some popularity. For navigation, I suggest the blogger add some more content in his navigation bar, like the ones listed above – Archives, Recent Posts Menu, etc. I also think the blogger should be, if he is not already, working on a blogroll to link back to other blogs in the same niche. This would definitely help to bring in traffic. The content is well done, and written in a user friendly style, so that even though it is discussing technology, it does not overwhelm the reader and is easily understood. The activity is not bad, bloggeries are coming in every few days to a week in between. I think the blogger could pick this up in its early stages and post daily if possible, just to keep feeding the search engines good material. Overall however, this is a popular niche, and I think this blog has an excellent potential to do well. It just needs to grow a little bit, and add more material to its navigation system to look more like a blog.

-Chrissie

Here is a blog that will spark the interest of both the techie lover and anyone looking for parenting tips. It is called Geek Parenting. The blog is primarily a blog for pop culture junkies who have spawned but refuse to give up their geeky obsessions, and at the same time, it offers parenting tips and aids to help make the joys of parenting just a little bit easier. The blogger is Amy Cottrell and she is the creator and author of Geek parenting. She is a mother, wife, and a self-professed full-time geek. Amy is also a professional writer and works in content producing for the Internet, as well as search engine optimization. As a full time mom and wife however, her preference for coffee chats is focused on babies and her other geeky love, comic books. Get to know Amy a little better as well as pick up some useful techie tips from some of her recent bloggeries: Top 10 Gadgets and Gizmos to Help Keep Your Little Geek Safe, Lil’ Geek of the Week, Fisher-Price Recalls Dangerous Toy…Only in Illinois?, Welcome to the World, Baby S!, Pretend to be a Time Traveller Day, Roswell is for Lovers (And Other Geek Vacations), Hobby Horse Memories, The Favorite of Girls and Boys, and More Geeky Goodness for the Holidays.

The blog is fairly new and just getting some of its blog meat, so thus at this point it is very easy to navigate. It has a clean template and organized design with a left navigation bar and bloggeries being right marginalized. Bloggeries are in black text on white background with a dark green border and links highlighted in green. In the left navigation menu you will find a Back to the Main Page link, About Geek Parenting information, Sponsors, Subscription information, What I’m Reading Menu, Contact Information, and an Archives Menu. All bloggeries are also accompanied by relevant pictures, and more than one in most cases which adds to the interest and appeal of the blog. There are however no categories yet listed on the blog, and the bloggeries do not contain tags or labels, so this may be something the blogger wants to look into as the blog grows to attract search engine traffic and help its readers find older posts.

I am going with a 3.6/5 for this blog, and this is primarily because the blog is in very early stages and still going through some growth spurts. Right now the blogger is doing very well for activity and keeping regular bloggeries that attract and interest an already growing readership. Navigation scores are hurting a little bit, but I suspect these would grow as the blog does. There are currently not very many standard navigation menus associated with the blog such as Recent Posts, Recent Comments, or as previously mentioned a Categories Menu. Adding these elements may make the blog a little easier to move around, and if the blogger keeps up with her current rate of activity, they will be a necessity as more content is added to the blog. The blog also scores well for uniqueness and appearance as this blog is not only cleanly laid out and thus easy to read, but also comes in a unique niche that attracts a healthy readership. Judging by the current comment tabulations with each bloggery, this blog is already doing very well in sustaining an excellent readership and thus with time, should experience even more growth and success.

-Chrissie

If you are a blogger, and I mean really, if you are reading this chances are good, then you definitely want to visit Blisslogs. Blisslogs is a little place where you can pick up some blogging tips and learn from the author’s blogging experiences. It did not take me long to really like this blog, or in fact bookmark it. That being said, bloggers need to take note of this site if they want to improve, promote, or start their own blog. The author is all about helping to help you, and is even willing to provide you your own domain through blisslogs as well as some free blogging software. Further, he will not just help you build a blog, but help you work on monetizing that blog for a little extra side income. Have a look at any of his recent posts to see what I am talking about. Here you will find Goo Goo for Google Monday – Google Talk, BlissLogs is a Winner, Improve your Google PageRank in 4 Easy Steps, WordPress Wednesday – Timestamp your Posts, The Face Behind BlissLogs, Market and Analyze your Site for only $5, John Cow Contest, Blog Contests, Create your Blog Posts with a Free Editor, and many more.

One of the first things I noticed that I love about this blog is that within each post you will find a popularity ranking (of the post), a date and author stamp, tags, Digg and Email links, and then a section on Related Posts. I think the popularity rating is a great tool for both the reader and the author in terms of knowing what to write about. It also helps the reader determine the success of a particular post. I also like the Related Posts links. I find this really increases the readability of the blog, so that users spend less time on a blog searching for what they want to read about. I do not see this often on blogs, so needless to say, I was impressed.

Navigation on this site is so easy, it will not take you long to find what you are looking for. Posts are left marginalized with black text on white background. There is a top, right, and bottom navigation bar. In the top bar you can hit the Home link, read the About Me page, and Contact the author. In the right navigation bar you will find a Most Popular Posts Menu, Categories Menu, Recent Posts Menu, Archives, and the Blogroll. In the bottom navigation system you will find very similar menus, recent posts, archives, and etc. I am not seeing any advertising on the blog, so I am not too sure if this one is being monetized, or is one that is ‘all about the love’ of blogging.

I am going with a 5 for this one, which comes rare but deserved. The fact that I spent more time wandering and reading and bookmarking and taking notes (for my own blog) than reviewing was a pretty powerful indication to me that this blog is worth a subscription and bookmark for any blogger. The blog is chock full of information. The content is spectacularly written and extremely user friendly. And the blogger is really all about helping you succeed, you can’t ask for much better. On all accounts of activity, uniqueness, content, navigation, and appearance, it scores beautifully. The only suggestion I would make is the addition of some pictures here and there. I say this because I know what Internet readers are like, and visual is important and ties in well with good content. But as I have already mentioned, the content is fantastic, and the blog is extremely readable and very user friendly. You really need to check it out for yourself.

If you are a girl blogger, you may want to have a look at this site: ChickTech. This site is a technology blog from a woman’s perspective, and it covers topics such as women-oriented tech products, techn news, building websites and blogs, and other tips that will teach you how to make money online. The site was launched in April this year by Jennifer Mattern who is an online business owner, freelance writer, and a former Technology Editor. Added to this site is a wealth of information that Jennifer offers for her radio talk show – Chick Tech Talk. So you can not only get information for chicks via the blog, but also get news on her talk show, or find out how to become a regular listener. If you are new to blogging or marketing online, you will find a lot of useful information in any of her recent posts: How to Become a Professional Blogger – Listen Live July 18th, More Easy to Use Blog headline templates, Chick Tech Talk cancelled for this week, 7 More Easy to Use Blog Headline Templates, 11 Easy to Use Blog Headline Templates, Writing and Marketing E-Books with Dee Power, Good News on the Scraper Front, Run an Online Magazine with Wordpress, and Best Non-Blog/Magazine Style Wordpress Themes.

The site is updated fairly regularly and its navigation and appearance are straightforward in standard blog format. There are both a left and right navigation bar with posts centered down the page. There is also a noted, but not overwhelming pink element to the blog which adds to the appeal of the marketed niche. In the left navigation bar you will find archives menu and the categories menu. The categories you will find there are Best Woman Webmaster Nominees, Blogging, Blogroll, Chick Tech Talk, Chick Tech Blog, Content Creation, Creating Websites, Internet Marketing, Interviews, Jenn’s Whims, Link Building, Making Money Online, Resources, Tech Gadgets, Tech News, and so much more. In the right navigation bar you will find the standard blog calendar and the meta links for the blog.

I am giving this one a 3.5, though, even though it is a clean and well written blog, there are some elements missing that I like to see. The blog is fairly new, so it is hard to determine what the readership is, although it does have a following of some sorts as witnessed by a smattering of comments. I would like to see more pictures included in the blog, just to spice up the main page a little more. There are a few there now, but for all intents and purposes it has the appearance of standard text blog. I also don’t see a recent posts menu, which would be invaluable to the readership if they are looking for something specific. The only other thing I noticed was that the About page sort of marketed this is having some gadget/tech information for women, and the site primarily strikes me as an Internet Marketing blog. Currently there are only 3 posts over the course of its blog life that offer technology/gadget related information. So I wouldn’t mind seeing some more content to that respect. Otherwise however, I think this blog is doing well in its youth, the appearance, navigation, and uniqueness of the blog will certainly ensure it stands out amongst others. The content as well is very well written and user-friendly for the technology challenged woman. I think this concept is a great idea, and with some growth I think this blog has a good enough niche that it will do very well.

If you are looking for another technical blog, stop and check out the blog Per Henrik Lausten, a blog on Lotus Domino, IT Architecture, Technology, and Other Stuff at The author, is an IT Architect at IBM from Denmark and writes entirely about tips and tricks on his industry. I will admit, I do not now nor ever will profess to know very much about this topic, but that does not take away from what I notice about the blog. From first glance the readership is very good, sitting at about 177 on the feed right now, and his posts are well populated with comments, s clearly his niche has found the market his blog needs. If you are interested in IT or Lotus Domino, you should take the time to check out his recent posts: Fast NSF: Domino Performance articles and tips, Dojomino: Info and Tutorials for using Dojo, New Laptop from Zepto with Intel Santa Rosa technology, Lotus Software Nordic meeting in Second Life, Podcast: Mike Rhodin on Lotus Notes 8, Join Impact 2007 in Second Life, Joost Invites, Danish Lotus Notes and Domino Job site, Lotus Notes 8 Beta reception in second life, and Blog on Lotus and Websphere in Norwegian.

Navigation on the site is very straightforward. Posts are left marginalized with a right navigation bar. Text is standard black on white background. The right navigation bar contains the profile of the blogger, RSS feed, and a recommended links menu containing recommended links from what looks like a “Show N Tell Thursday” category: Architectural Patterns and Domino (Show’n Tell Thursday), Lotus Domino and Designing for Accessibility (Show’n Tell Thursday), getItem Value String and Domino 6.5.5 and 7.0 (Show’n Tell Thursday), Sorting a Notes Document Collection by multiple field values (Show’n Tell Thursday). There is also a nice list of fellow IBM bloggers and the archive listing in the right navigation menu.

I will give this blog a 3.3 based on our criteria. This blog could use a category menu to sort and organize posts a little better. The posting is somewhat sporadic so I think perhaps a couple of more posts a week would bring the mark up a little bit. I would like to suggest pictures, just so that the blog seems a little more interesting. And it may help to add a user friendly component or definitions category to this page for those like me that don’t know much about the topic. However, overall the blog is doing well with its readership of 177 readers, and I can’t offer much more advice to help it other than adding some user friendly or “easy readability” features for the non-techies out there. I enjoy reading blogs of all niches, regardless of if I am a guru in them or not, and for others of the same inclination that stumbled on this blog a user friendly category would gain even more readership than this blog already has. Otherwise, I think this blogs readers and devoted commenters would agree when I say this blog is heading in the right direction.

If you are a technology junky or into security related equipment, go take a look at Spy Review: The Spy Gadget Blog. I couldn’t help but hum the Mission Impossible theme song in my head when reading through this blog. This blog aims to create a community where advice and experience in the security and surveillance industry can be shared. It provides a host of information, reviews, and advice relating to the security industry. And you will find a lot of information here on some really cool gadgets. If you are not in the spy industry, that alone is worth popping in to see. Recent posts here include Hiding a Spy Camera in Clothing, Zoom Telescope for a mobile phone, A poll on what your favorite spy product is, spy reviews back to March, and the list is quite comprehensive. Related posts include creating a camera with X-Ray Vision, Hiding a Spy Camera in a Pillow?, Invisible Wireless Covert Earpieces, Color Thermostat Spy Camera, Spy Camera Hidden in Shower Mirror, and so many more. Each post is accompanied by corresponding photographs so that you can see the gadget in detail and find out how it really works. I didn’t know whether to be wowed or creeped out when seeing these things, as I was truly amazed at how many common everyday items can be turned into detective devices. It almost left me wondering how many of these things are floating around out there without our knowledge. However, the posts are well researched and well informed, and provide excellent content to the audience of 111 readers.

Navigation on this site is very straighforward. Posts are left marginalized and run down the page with standard black text on white background. On the right navigation bar you can visit the Spy Shop and purchase some of these doodads, and flip through the very well organized categories if you are looking for something specific. Categories are sorted by specific devices: audio surveillance, books, circuits, computer surveillance, counter-surveillance, covert spy cameras, DIY spy gear, interviews, location tracking, new products, self defense, spy phones, and so much more. There is also a chance here for you to register for the site if it is something you really have a vested interest in.

I am going with a 3.7 for this one. The content is very well written and the site has some appropriate pictures with each post. The site also scores well on uniqueness as this is not your every day blog you stumble across. I also found the site very easy to navigate. I was however so distracted by the AdSense that it was actually the first thing I saw when opening up the site. This needs to be toned down a bit, perhaps blended in with the right navigation bar or even just not as prevalent as it is now. Posts are also coming in every 2 or 3 days which brings the mark down a bit as well. I would suggest finding news pieces or somewhat related information if there is not enough “gadget related” content available for the site. Overall however, I found it be very cool to read and think it is a good resource for anyone interested in the Big Brother is Watching you notion.

You will find out from first hand users what models are the most ideal and best value for your money. Not only do you have this wealth of information at your fingertips, but you will also find discount codes, sale information, and delivery vouchers for some of the top retailers of Plasma TV’s.

Navigation through this site is extremely easy and user friendly. Check out some of their useful links: Plasma TV News, and Plasma TV Buying Guide. You can also easily find the top 12 Plasma TV’s, and the Best Sellers of this electronic divinity. Look a little further and you will find out the top 5 sellers this month. Recent posts that come in daily largely include product reviews and overviews, as well as up to date articles on the benefits of using a Plasma TV for your entertainment use. This site is also a good source for Plasma News, and its categories list each model separately, so if you have a model specific question, it is literally at your fingertips.

I am going to give this site a 4. It is extremely user friendly, and the content is written very well and in layman’s terms. This is good because the technology behind the Plasma TV can be so jargoned it is very difficult to understand. But Plasma TV Reviews puts it in a very average person perspective to ensure you are fully informed when you make your purchase. This is definitely a specialized niche, so the blog scores for uniqueness as well. It is laid out very nicely, with plain black text white background which makes it easy to read. And the corresponding pictures are suitable enough to ensure the electronic coveter’s drool. The only suggestions I would have would be to shorten the posts a little bit. They are very technical and wordy, and though easy to understand, it distracts from the point a little bit. I would also suggest some advertising on this site to fill up some of the empty space along the right hand side. I know the authors are generating revenue through featured links, but this could enhance the monetization of their site. Other than that, it is a great site and almost makes me want to go out and buy one!

Take a look at Douglas Adams Technology Blog. This is a blog about the latest technology developments. I really liked this site because it also is a handy reference tool for technology for dummies, me being one of them. This site represents itself as a good source of information for consumers looking to purchase or upgrade anything technology related. Recent posts include “The Zune vs. Ipod Debate”, “Noise Canceling Headphones – Pros and Cons”, “How to buy an Ipod”, and “Hard Drive Size – Why It’s Important” (apparently size DOES matter!). For those of you that find it difficult to understand the difference between gigs and pods and bits and zunes, this site comes recommended as a good foundation when you are in the market for a new product. Stop in here before your next visit to Best Buy or Future Shop, and you will find a very comprehensive and easy to follow guide to your technology related questions.

Navigation on this site was fairly straightforward. The most recent post is “Computer Keyboard Cleaning – A Quick Guide”. I couldn’t help but look down at my own keyboard when reading this site and noticing the effect of a writer’s life on it. Now I know how to get some of those coffee marks out safely, as I had been avoiding the task for fear of damaging my equipment. The font is a great size and is easy to read, and the posts clearly list out the steps necessary to make the move the post is referring to. i.e. cleaning your keyboard or buying that iPod. On the left hand side is the blog’s navigation bars where you will find a list of links on a variety of topics – book reviews, alternative health information, technology related links, politics, and even weight loss and survey blogs. You will find very little advertising or pictures on this site but you will find a lot of archived information. This comes useful if you have a specific question that isn’t contained in the recent posts. I put in a search for “hard drive” and got a very comprehensive list in return so the site is well informed.

I am going to go and give this a 2.8 for a rating, but I am still bookmarking the site for my own reference. I think this site needs just a few tweaks to become fairly useful to any computer or technology user. The content rates the highest marks as it is a very user friendly guide to just about anything technology related. The uniqueness marks go down a bit, but only because technology blogs are a dime a dozen nowadays and this one needs some work to stand out. There are no pictures at all on the site, and adding them would certainly spice it up considerably. Activity needs some work as well with posts coming in every four days or so. The appearance will be helped with some graphics and maybe some more advertising on the site. For now, the site is completely text-driven which makes it come across as a little boring, and that fact overshadows the usefulness of the blog.
