The Sports Dollar Blog

rate4 The Sports Dollar BlogThe avid sports fan that is looking for a blog to whet their NFL appetite will certainly appreciate The Sports Dollar Blog.  This is a dual purpose blog in the sense that it is both a sports blog and a blog in which one can learn how to make money at home. The blog combines passion for sports with a passion for blogging and turns that into something that is a full-time blog for this team.  While the bloggers make no claims to be experts, they will provide tips, tricks and other useful information how others could do the exact same thing. You can see this for yourself through any of the most recent bloggeries which include:How to Start a New Sports Blog  – 20 Tips; Hands-on Blogging and Creative Income; NFL Blog Power Rankings Week 2; Sports Dollar’s Weekly 2008 NFL Power Rankings – Week 2; and BlogStorm’s Job Board

jones drew The Sports Dollar BlogThe blog is designed in a sports friendly theme with a colorful motif in a clean organized template making it very easy to navigate.  Bloggeries are left marginalized in black text on white background and there are both a right sided navigation bar and a top navigation bar in the header.  At the top you will find links to Home, About, Contact, Make Money, Advertise, Jobs, and Subscribe.  In the right sided navigation bar you can find all of the essential blog meat such as some advertising cleverly integrated into the blog design, top articles, recent articles, Yardbarker Network, Recent Comments Menu, Job Board, Recent Readers Widget, Recent Viewers Widget, Archives Menu, and an extensive Categories Menu.  The Categories Menu is very comprehensive and contains labels that include everything the blog purports to offer such as Making Money, Affilliates, NBA, NFL, and so much more.

Overall the blog is looking great, has a great read, and thus deserves a 4.3/5 for review.  I have little to offer in the way of suggestion other than increasing the consistency of bloggeries and perhaps updating on a daily basis.  From an appearance perspective, the blog is clean and well organized, and this makes it easy to navigate as well.  Navigation wise the blog offers all essential blog meat in a clean fashion that makes everything very easy to find.  The unique factor of the dual purpose of the blog also serves both the bloggers and its readers well.  The content is well written and in a user friendly voice making it a very appealing blog overall for the average sports fan, as well as for those looking to make a little money online.  Again, with more consistent activity, I would suspect that this blog would do very well over time and give it a recommend to readers looking for sports or money making blogging content

Southern Sports Beat – Blog Review

Monday, April 21st, 2008

rate3 Southern Sports Beat Blog ReviewWith both NHL and NBA playoffs in full throttle, Bloggeries is looking at a sports blog today, and this sports blog is known as the Southern Sports Beat. Here the sports junkie will find all that they need to know that is sports, as this is the place where four opinionated bloggers write about every sport imaginable.  To see this for yourself, take a moment to look at any of their recent bloggeries:  Hockey Playoffs; Why the World Should be Yankess Fans;  Please Save Josh!!; Diamonds are Forever, and so is Ric Flair; The Future of Duke Basketball; One Shining Moment; and The Greatest Final Four?

NHL Hockey Playoffs - Detroit Red Wings - Stanley Cup Champions ?The blog is fairly young and so at this point is all about content.  Thus with little blog meat the blog is easily navigated.  Bloggeries are right marginalized and there is a left navigation system.  Bloggeries are in black text on white background and links are highlighted in orange.  In the left navigation system you will find a Sports Poll, Pick a Topic Pick an Author Menu (Categories Menu), Links Menu, Recent Visitors Widget, and Archives Menu.  The Categories Men is comprehensive where you can do just as it says, meet any of its authors – Bigdog, Hot Route, Jeff, or Justin; or read about any sport – Liberty Patriots, MLB, Nascar, NBA, NCAA Basketball, NFL, NHL, or WWE.  Each bloggery is associated with a relevant sports related picture adding meaning to the blog.

This blog will get a 3.1/5 for this review, and this score is largely attributed to the blog’s youth.  There is very little blog meat and content within the blog, and for a new blog, this does not bode well.  The blog scores well on appearance with a clean and well organized template.  For navigation the blog does okay, though a few more blog essentials would spice up this blog.  The blog for example has healthy activity from its readers with many comments coming in with every post, thus a Recent Comments menu would be some great blog meat the blog could add to connect with its readership.  Activity is weak at this point, for a two month old blog there is very little activity.  This blog could beef that up with playoff season in two major leagues in full swing.  The blog also needs a healthier About Page, or an About Page in general and again, this would serve the purpose of connecting with its readership.  Right now the About information is in a short paragraph located below the header.  Using an About Page to recognize and profile its contributing Authors would add a tremendous appeal to this sports blog. Overall, this sports blog looks comprehensive and offers definite potential to the sports fan. With a few tweaks, this could be a very successful blog, even in the off-season.

Sports Posters Blog – Review

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

rate3 Sports Posters Blog ReviewIf you are a sports fan, and particularly one that likes collectibles on your favorite teams or players past or present, then you may want to check out The Sports Posters Blog. The blog is dedicated to those in search of the perfect sports poster.  The blogger acknowledges that sports poster publishers are becoming a thing of the past, and thus with licensed sports products being hard to find, the blog would like to inform and entertain, and continue the promotion of sports poster collecting.  To learn more about what this blog has to offer, check out any of their recent bloggeries: More on DAMAC NFL Football Posters (1978-1983) – San Diego Chargers, New York Jets, March Madness – 2008 NCAA Basketball Tournament, DAMAC NFL Theme Art Posters (1978-1983) by Chuck Ren – Dallas Cowboy Variations, Professional Bull Riders Posters – the Toughest Spot on Dirt, A Nod to Uni Watch: Top 10 Posters Featuring Rare Sports Unifroms, and Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics Posters – ISOC Beauties but Where’s the Primary Logo?

Sidney Crosby Pittsburgh PenguinsThe blog has a clean wordpress template and very little blog meat which makes navigation simple.  Bloggeries are left marginalized and in black text on white background.  The blog offers one right sided navigation bar which currently contains a search bar, recent entries, and a links menu.  Many pictures are associated with each bloggery, which is good in that it adds some color and spice to the blog, but at this point there may be too many as it is taking the blog a long time to load.  Other than blog content however, there is not much else to navigate or find of interest on the blog.

I will go with a 3/5 for this blog at this point, as it is a sparse looking blog lacking some essentials necessary to keep readers interested.  Appearance wise the blog is clean, however, there is so little other than content on the blog that it is actually looking a little sparse in terms of overall appearance.  The lack of what I refer to as ‘blog meat’ is making this blog look somewhat empty, and is also affecting its navigation scores.  To add to the blog’s appearance, the blogger may want to consider adding elements such as Recent Comments menu, categories menu, subscription widgets, archives menu, contact information, and the like.  Right now, with the lack of blog meat, the blog does not offer anything in terms of connecting with the readership, and thus is not likely to sustain a healthy readership over the long term as a result.  Content is well done but is sparse with new bloggeries coming in every few days to a week or even more in between.  Overall, if this blogger wants to sustain a healthy readership, regular content and more blog material will be critical to its overall success. A possible example of blog material would be the authors thoughts on the posters being displayed; many other possibilities.
