If you are looking for a blog that offers a little more than the ordinary, the Daily Perspective would be an excellent choice. Here at “Daily Perspective“ you will find the author’s connections between headlines of today with headlines of yesterday. I find the concept of this blog extremely intriguing, and think everyone could find useful tidbits here even if they are not history buffs. The authors work for a company called Heritage Microfilm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and are using this blog as a means to allow you to explore and interact with the history that shapes our future. The Daily Perspective is a source for often forgotten information with a refreshing dose of historical perspective. One of my favorite posts that highlights this is “Can children be Mailed?” which brings us back to 1920 when in fact, the United States Postal Service put a ban on the mailing of actual children. Other interesting tidbits you will find here include “Newspaper Archive.com releases celebrate freedom project”, “Flag Burning: Should it Be Protected?”, and “Concert to Celebrate Princess Diana’s Life”.
Navigation on this blog is very easy, with posts being left marginalized and a very comprehensive right navigation bar. Posts are black text on white background with a pale blue border and a red header. I get a very distinct All-American feel from this which suits the niche very nicely. There is no advertising on this blog, and this shows the thought of the authors into the intent of their project. However it does seem to have some readers so it may do well if they decide to reconsider this. The right navigation bar has an archive menu, about me page, a newsletter subscription, and a very comprehensive list of categories. If you are a history buff you will enjoy browsing the categories to see the extensive listing on everything from Abraham Lincoln to the Titanic and every American historical event in between listed here. The authors have clearly left nothing out.
I would say a 3 for this one at this point, it needs a little more work, but not much. I think activity is hurting the blog review the most with only 17 posts listed in 2007. For a blog that is called the Daily Perspective, I would suggest more content definitely. Though the content that is there is refreshing and very well written, and this blog could be very successful if it keeps that up. I think the blog has a wide enough niche that daily or even every other day content could be included very easily. I also wouldn’t mind seeing more pictures of the historical events they talk of, perhaps a then and now kind of juxtaposition to move with the them of the blog. On other counts however, the blog is easy to navigate, has a very appealing appearance, and a unique concept. With just a few more regular postings, this blog could do very well.

You might be looking for a blog that has a little bit of everything that involves what may be called “hot topics” on the web today. You know, television, Internet, technology, online video business, that kind of thing. Alex Klive has attempted to do just that with his World TV Blog. The goal with is blog is to bring you news and commentary on the developments taking place in Internet Television and broadband video. His intent is to provide to the world subjective reviews and analysis of online video content and his target audience is consumers, but is hoping to reach others in the industry as well. To get an idea of his blog, you can check out his recent posts: New keyboard controlled news application, What is World TV Beta? What is a beta?, Fixing an overheating Inspiron 1300 laptop, Football News Sites, Facebook Fatigue – The curse of the Social Networking sites, David Chase speaks, The End of the Sopranos, RCTV Broadcasts reach 100,000 viewers in 100 countries, and A review of WorldTV from Profy.com.
I will say the site is somewhat difficult to navigate. When you go to the main page, everything is left marginalized. The site has standard black text on white background and as mentioned, is left marginalized. Scroll right through the bottom to find the stuff that blogs are made of. There is a menu for consumer blogs that contains links to the “Official Google Video Blog” and the “TV Squad”. You can also find a menu for assorted Industry Blogs relating to media and online television. There is another menu for industry jobs, and some additional links you may want to get to. Navigation is so difficult that it took me some time to find the “About Me” page which is sort of clustered in the mix on the left navigation bar dumped way down at the bottom. When you do get there however, you will find some good content, an excellent introduction to Klive, the owner, and oddly enough, the categories menu in a right sided navigation bar. Here you can check out any of the World TV Categories he has made, Most Popular Videos on the Internet, About the Author and Introduction to this Blog, Contact Us, Content News, Event Dates, Guides and Tutorials, Miscellaneous, My Favorite Video Clips, Rants and Raves, and Software Tools. All very valuable links if you take the time to find them, which, given how difficult this site is to navigate, I am guessing you won’t.
So this site is getting a 2.8 from me, and I am sure you can guess why. When a site isn’t easy to navigate it does not matter how good the content is, I am too distracted to fully appreciate it. I did like the style of writing, the review of Facebook post for example was excellently written and very comprehensive. I only wish the formatting could be revamped so that the readership can focus on what the blog is about, the content. I think given the nature of the blog, the links and categories and content are all excellently done and relevant but again, so poorly formatted. The author needs to work on this blog and then I think his readership will appreciate the content the way it deserves to be.

There are not too many blogs that talk about current world news and issues. “Surviving Critical Times Hard to Deal With” is not your usual ‘talking’ blog. It lists a series of international matters that concern everyone. These include political news, health updates, economic information about the different countries all over the world and updates on issues affecting all of us like global warming.
It’s pretty much like a CNN website, minus the big name and the spotlight. The website has a simple and clean layout that can help you navigate through the site much easier. News articles are on the left side and ads on the right side.
The great thing about this blog is that its advertisements are nothing intrusive. I’ve seen most blogs put in their Google ads in between articles, but this blog lets the readers read through their articles with ease. You will not find ads scattered around, they are where I believe they should be – in the designated location for ads at the left side of the blog. The blog owner also has a list of his favourite books; the links will send you to them if you want to purchase one for yourself.
VeryStrangeIssues.blogspot has news archived as far back as December of 2005. So if you want to go back to history and read about critical news and media that happened in the past year that made a difference in the world’s economy and political happenings, you would most definitely have a good time browsing this blog.
One suggestion though, the blog could have been more alive and inviting if there were personal commentaries about the news that are posted on the website. This would somehow add a little ‘personal touch’ and ‘character’ to the website. This can also get other blogger’s to comment on the news articles. Interaction is very important in any successful blog.
How the articles are presented also needs a little improvement. Block layouts are a no-no, they tend to be generic and boring. Online users have short attention span. Breaking up one long article into short paragraphs would entice your readers to read through an entire article. It’s a great thing that there are images or pictures that comes along with the news posts; that definitely helped in sprucing up the blog.
The header could also use a little jazzing up. In my opinion, all blogs should have some amount of branding. A personal header that includes the blog’s name will result to a better recall from your visitors. This way your blog would stand out from all the other blogs out there.
Now for the verdict, I’ll give VeryStrangeIssues.blogspot.com a 3 rating. It has excellent content but there should be more activity going on there. With the suggestions listed above, this blog could definitely be a big hit.
