Stern Thoughts Blog Review

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

rate4 Stern Thoughts Blog ReviewStern Thoughts is a humorous blog that could best be described as somewhat warped to the vanilla crowd. It’s written by a gent in his 40’s who practices law and apparently has a hobby of writing comical thoughts online. The blog is quite new in its second month but the activity and content is there, it could possibly be one of those blogs that sticks around for the long haul.

This blog is basically updated daily with funny stories or random thoughts from the author. The content of this blog will draw you in and you’ll find yourself reading more than you had original came for. One may even be hitting the next page button in no time. It’s easy to read and in each entry my face has made at least a slight smirk based on the amusing and sometimes ridiculous content of the entries. An entry that I found particularly enjoyable was “The Shame of it“.

This is a good blog that is seriously suffering from lack of design. That’s “OK” though as it’s new and after these suggestions should be on way to being a great blog. I’m suggesting a completely new theme. There are thousands of free ones to choose from and customize before spending cash on a professional design. The header says little about the blog and the color makes it hard to read.

Furthermore, an appropriate graphic for each update would do wonders to draw readers in. Also if the posts were made into snippets where the reader can click “read more” it would better help organize the quality content. On the topic of organization, some categorization would be nice to help readers in the future find posts of a particular nature.

This blog gets a 3.7/5, loses most of its points for the layout and readability.

Best of Stupid Blog Review

Monday, July 28th, 2008

rate4 Best of Stupid Blog ReviewBloggeries is going to look at a unique blog today, and it is called the Best of Stupid Blog. The Best of Stupid blog is somewhat of a personal blog with a finely targeted niche demographic, those that enjoy stupidity.  The Best of Stupid Blog is found written by bloggers that encounter stupidity so much that they decided the best of stupid should be recognized and showcased for its unbelievable lack of intelligence or usefulness.  While the bloggers do not seem to have a lack of content or material to showcase stupidity, they will take submissions from their readership should you come across something of stupid significance as well.  You can have a look at how the bloggers guage stupidity through any of their recent bloggeries at: Why Decimal Points Matter, This Week on Ebay, Oops…A New Meaning to Chinese Take Out, Crocs are Stupid too, All About the 4th of July – School House Rocks Style, and Is Your iPhone Getting You Down? Try Thumbles!

Sleeping Thief - How Lazy! The blog is organized in a clean template which offers an organized appearance and ease of navigation.  Bloggeries are left marginalized and there is a double sided navigation system.  Bloggeries are in black text on white background, and the blog also has an aqua color scheme with links in the same color.  In the left navigation bar you will find a Recent Posts Menu (titled New Stupid Stuff), an Archives Menu (titled Old Stupid Stuff), Tag Cloud, Recent Comments Menu, and Top Commenters Menu.  The right sided bar is left more for advertising and a My Blog Log Widget.  Most of the bloggeries contain relevant pictures, most of which the blogger has taken himself, which are cute renditions of the stupidity they run across in their every day life, and add humor and meaning to the bloggeries.

Overall this blog gets a 4.2/5, as it offers quite a bit to its readership.  From a content perspective, the content is well written with a strong personal voice that lends humor to the bloggeries for the readership.  The content is very entertaining, though is lacking in consistency with activity. Daily activity would give the activity scores a perfect rating, though the blogger is maintaining its readership with bloggeries every few days.  The blog is well organized and thus does well for navigation, and this lends well towards its overall appearance as well. There is a presence of advertising, but not too much so, so the blogger is organizing their monetization well also. Overall, this blog is an entertaining blog, and could probably see an even larger readership with daily activity and more consistent traffic.

Blogstress Blog Review

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Blogstress Blog ReviewBloggeries is going to review a humorous personal blog today, and the blog is called Blogstress.  The blogger is affectionately known as Aunt Bloggie, among many other nicknames, and blogs out of Istanbul, Turkey when not living in Baltimore, Maryland.  Besides working at his day job, you will find him blogging at Blogstress and playing bass for the Turkish Rock Band sensation called 45 Degrees.  From first glance it appears that the blog is a question and answer blog, with questions being submitted by readers and answered by Aunt Bloggie.  Questions range on everything from Shakespeare to blogging, and you can see this all for yourself through any of the recent bloggeries:  Aunt Bloggie Versus Sententious Drivel, Aunt Bloggie Feels More Alive, Aunt Bloggie’s “Ask Aunt Bloggie” Contest Give Away, Aunt Bloggie Knows You Know She Knows, and Delete or Not Delete?

Aunt BloggieThe blog is fairly new, in fact not quite a month old yet, and contains little blog meat.  While this does make the blog seem a little scarce, it makes navigation somewhat simple.  Bloggeries are left marginalized and are in black text on white background with headlines highlighted in grey, and links in bold black.  There is a right navigation system containing the Archives Menu in pull down format, Blog Directory, Blogroll, Recent Posts Menu, and a Recent Comments Menu.  Otherwise there is little contained in the blog, and bloggeries have small images of a woman working at her desk, theoretically to symbolize the image of Aunt Bloggie.  Otherwise, the blog is primarily textual.

Overall the blog gets a 2.8/5 at this point, however the blog is so new that perhaps with some time and growth the blog will improve.  The blog is containing very little blog meat and this is affecting its overall readability.  Starting off, it is very difficult even to tell what the blog is about, and thus, what it has to offer its readers. Two components would assist readers in this, a Categories Menu and an About Page. The blog currently only offers one of those elements in the About page, but the about page itself needs some work.  From the About page we learn more about the blogger himself, and less about what the blog has to offer its readership.  As such, the readers may be left questioning what the purpose or overall function of the blog is.  Most blog meat is present, but a Categories Menu would organize the blog more as well making the bloggeries more available to the readership in an organized format.  The appearance of the blog needs just a little tweaking in terms of fonts that are used, and cleaning up the appearance of the bloggeries.  Right now bloggeries are not consistent in terms of fonts used, with font sizes ranging such that some bloggeries are very difficult to read.  Also, the activity for a new blog should be much more consistent, daily if possible, in order to attract traffic, and this blog is updating every few days to a week or more in between.  The content however is very well written, but because of some of these issues, is perhaps being overlooked by its readers.  Perhaps with some tweaks here and there and some growth with time, the quality content on this blog will begin to stand out on its own.
