DVD Dossier - Blog Review

Bloggeries.com is here with a review from our movie category in the directory. DVD Dossier is exactly what it says it is. It’s a collection of DVD information. Its purpose is to notify it’s readers on new DVD releases, but there is a lot more to it than that. DVD Dossier can be your one stop source for reading about, searching, and even buying DVDs. How is DVD Dossier so convenient? Read this review to find out.

You’ll know you are on The DVD Dossier Blog by the unmistakably large yellow letters that headline the top of the website. It may not match, but it grabs your attention right? Good. Other than that, nothing stands out. The blog has a light blue/white theme which is an easy color scheme on the eyes. One of the most important aspects of a good blog is its appearance. The most important part of the blog, which is the actual blog itself, is centered in the middle of the webpage. To the left and right of the content, are two columns. The left column has news feeds, a search bar, and a listing of top DVD releases. And the right column includes a newsletter sign-up form, recent posts, and a lot of ads. Past the ads, toward the bottom of the page, there is also the archives section, contacting information, and a category section. Oddly enough the categories section is below the archived section. There is a flaw in the organization of the columns though. The advertisements are all on the right side of the column, which looks very messy, while, the left column provides the more useful tools, like the search feature. The columns should be balanced, because ad placement is important in running a successful website and it looks a lot more professional.

This blog does more than just tell you what DVD is being released. Each post spotlights a DVD, and summarizes the just of the movie. It includes the genre, actors and actresses, and the plot of the movie. And what’s even better is it includes links and information regarding prices and comparisons with different retail stores. In a recent post about the movie “Catch and Release”, “The Suggested Retail price will be $28.95 for the DVD and $38.96 for the Blu-ray Disc. These are only suggestions, however. In the real world, expect to pay as little as $20.00 and $27.00, respectively.” In contrast, if you don’t feel like going through the blog and reading the posts, and want to just be up to date with what’s new, there is a large list of DVDs that are hot releases. Click the picture to be redirected to its purchasing information from the retailer.

So, how worthy is this DVD Dossier? Bloggeries.com gives this blog a notable 4 out of 5. The yellow banner and simple layout and color scheme pulls the visitor in, but too many advertisements make it look messy. Advertisements should be mixed evenly throughout the site, and it is difficult to find sections, like contact information, and archives, with cluttered ads. DVDdossier.com has been running strong since June of 2006, and is a useful tool for your DVD needs.
